In-Situ Foamable Polyurethane Materials for the Regeneration of Bone and Soft Tissue

Title: "In-Situ Foamable Polyurethane Materials for the Regeneration of Bone and Soft Tissue"
Project duration: 01.12.2016 - 31.05.2019
Project type: INNO-KOM MF 160089
Partner: INNOVENT e.V. (Germany); Dr. Bernhard Rieger Universitätsklinikum Dresden – Klinik für Neurochirugie (Germany); SHORT CARE Klinik Greifswald (Germany)

The aim of the project is to develop novel resorbable and non-resorbable porous polymer materials based on polyurethanes with optimized biocompatibility and mechanical properties for use in advanced osteoporosis in spine surgery and as bone or soft tissue replacement material. These special polymers should be characterized by adjustable elasticity, high cytocompatibility and good ingrowth behavior.

The applications for such new polymers are e.g. treatment of spinal column damage caused by osteoporosis, scoliosis or tumor diseases, in case of non-resorbable polymers. For resorbable polymers, the focus is on bone replacement materials for bone regeneration, and soft tissue replacement materials for defects that occur, for example, as a result of accidents or tumor resections or in the case of congenital connective tissue weakness and require adequate tissue replacement.
