Plasma Chemical Oxidation of Titanium Alloys (PCO®22)

As well as for aluminum and magnesium alloys, the plasma chemical oxidation can also be used for titanium and its alloys to generate the desired surface properties. Currently, research and development is focusing on two different applications:

  • Generation of matte black layers with absorption and scattered light reducing functions for optical instrument construction and aerospace applications
  • Generation of bio inert or bioactive layers for medical and implant technologies

The layer properties of the black films are comparable to those of aluminum or magnesium alloys.

The properties of the layers for implant technology can be varied within wide limits according to the customer needs.
