By applying this measuring method we are able to make statements about the quality of surface pretreatment methods. For example, the quality of an "easy to clean" layer can be assessed both by the size of the contact angle against water and by the value of the surface energy. Through systematic investigations of the coated substrates we are able to optimize a surface pretreatment in such a way that the hydrophobic properties of the top layer correspond to the contact angles against water shown in the figure.
