Polarization Microscopic Examination of Magnetic Features

For incident light polarization microscopy we offer a special adapter which can be easily attached to the objective. The magneto-optical sensor chip is already integrated in the lens adapter. The height adjustment of the objective ensures a clean focus on the sensor surface and an additional spring mechanism allows a precise pressing of the sensor against the sample surface.

The Mobjektiv is custom-made for a variety of different objectives for polarization microscopy. The adjustment can be made for a lens outer diameter in the range 15 to 35 mm.
Depending on the magnification, resolutions of up to 1 µm with an image diagonal of up to several millimeters can be achieved. For most applications, the magneto-optical sensor type B is recommended for the mobile lens, which provides sufficient resolution with moderate sensitivity. The more sensitive sensor type A has an out-of-plane anisotropy with a meander domain structure that limits the resolution quality. The following high-resolution material tests, for example, can be carried out using the objective lens:

  • Characterization of magnetic microencoders and scales
  • Detection of the presence of hard magnetic particles
  • Microscopy of magnetic security features
  • Distribution of magnetic particles in polymer-bound magnets
  • Domain observation of shape memory alloys
  • Analysis of magnetic information from magnetic stripe cards
  • Proof of manipulation of audio/video tapes
  • Magnetic phases in minerals
